This Harvard Health article reports findings from two major long‑running Harvard cohort studies showing that people who ate nuts regularly, especially daily, had significantly lower mortality rates over 30 years.
Daily nut eaters were 20% less likely to die during the study period, with notable reductions in deaths from cancer, heart disease, and respiratory disease. The benefits appear to come from nuts’ combination of healthy fats, fibre, minerals, and antioxidants, which support cardiometabolic health and reduce inflammation.
The research draws on nearly 120,000 participants from the Nurses’ Health Study and the Physicians’ Health Study.
